IPL betting racket busted


Uttarakhand Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a betting racket on IPL matches with the arrest of four "bookies" from Haridwar and recovery of Rs 50,000 in cash and mobile phones.

Ajay Jaiswal, Roshan Lal, Tarun and Pappu were arrested late last evening following a tip off that a betting racket on IPL matches being played in South Africa was operating from a hotel room in the pilgrim city, police said.

A special team was constituted and sent to the hotel where the alleged bookies were watching the match on TV and taking bets using mobile phones, Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Gunjyal said.

While Jaiswal and Lal are residents of Dehradun, Tarun and Pappu are residents of Haridwar. A dozen mobile phones and cash of Rs 50,000 was also recovered, Gunjyal said.

Gunjyal said all the four are being interrogated to find their contacts in the racket.
