FanSpeak: What's Yuvi doing in Tests?

New Delhi: Is Yuvraj Singh getting too many chances to play Test cricket at the expense of some genuine talents?

FanSpeak writer of the week Sridhar Sivaraman feels so. He goes on to put forth the case of Rohit Sharma and asks the selectors why they aren't giving anyone else a chance in place of Yuvraj.

What's Yuvi dong in Tests?

By Sridhar Sivaraman

I am a great fan of Yuvraj in one-day internationals and in the T20 format, but seeing him in the Indian Test side is a surprising feeling.

One-day cricket and T20 are short-term entertainment, whereas Test matches is a test of true character and mental strength. I don't think Yuvi fits in the Test side, especially in the shoes of Sourav Ganguly.

And it's not that the selectors don't have an option. Rohit Sharma is a better Test player than Yuvi. He has already proved himself at home by scoring centuries against the mighty Australians. What more do the selectors need from him?

Yuvi comes in at the important four down position, but somehow his shot selection and failure to apply himsefl gives me the feeling that he doesn't understand the seriousness of Test cricket. One cannot be a in the side only based on his performance in ODIs and T20s. Scoring test runs on foreign soil is not written in Yuvi's destiny.

Frankly speaking Yuvi is wasting someone's career like Rohit sharma. It's time to give Rohit Sharma a chance in place of Yuvi. Rohit is very talented and has the potential to be a great Test player. He could probably be the next Rahul Dravid of the team. It's time the selectors gave Rohit a break.

Enough of seeing Yuvi score single digits consistently on foreign soil. Please give some other talents a chance.
