Cape Cobras beat R Royals by 28 runs

Cape Town: The Indian Premier League defending champions Rajasthan Royals lost their first game in the run-up to the second edition of the Twenty20 tournament to Cape Cobras by 28 runs at Newlands here on Saturday.


Chasing a target of 143, the Royals were dismissed for 114 with one over to spare. All but RJ Quiney of the IPL champions could barely stand to the Cobra attack.


Quiney, the opener, scored 34 from 24 balls with five boundaries and one six. Henderson was the only other Royal batsman to hit a six that the Twenty20 tournament is famous for.


Skipper Warne was the second highest scorer of the Royals with 21 runs. Ojha and Raut made 10 each as Kaif contributed 12 runs.


Kleinveldt who had scored 23 from 15 balls, claimed four wickets for the Cobras. Peterson bagged two wickets as Rabie, Philander and Ontong got one wicket each.


Earlier, Cobras finished with 142-8 after electing to bat. Levi top scored with 36 from 22 balls with three fours and two sixes. Brand chipped in with 24 as Philander made 26.


Amit Singh claimed three wickets for the Royals for 18 runs from his four overs. Trivedi, Kamran, Henderson, Jadeja and captain Warne all got one wicket each.


This was the first practice match for Rajasthan Royals before the second edition of the Indian Premier League begins on April 18
