Andy Flower set to be named as England's new head coach

Andy Flower looks set to be appointed England's new head coach within the next seven days.

The former Zimbabwe Test star is hot favourite to succeed Peter Moores at the helm having seen his main rivals pull out of the race.

Mickey Arthur, Gary Kirsten and Graham Ford ruled themselves out of the running and Tom Moody chose not to enter the race, preferring to stay with Western Australia.

It means Flower, who has just returned from leading the team as assistant coach, will be able to start in earnest plotting England's Ashes bid this summer.

Flower is the players' choice having built up a firm relationship with them in the West Indies.
He has a good rapport with Test captain Andrew Strauss, and national selector Geoff Miller believes he is the best man for a long, tough international summer.

Strauss's men face a return series against the men from the Caribbean, which starts at Lord's in just 24 days.

An ECB spokesman said: "We hope to make a decision by the end of the week. The sooner it is made the better for everyone concerned.

The series with West Indies is just around the corner."
